ABOUT THE SONG:

This song was, If I remember correctly, the first song that was written for this album. It went through a barrage of changes. I had three different melody lines for the verses with lyrics about three slightly different topics. I tried to write a song along the lines of the feel I got from certain songs on James' "Laid" album (a great album, by the way). I think that Brian Eno (the Producer of that album) definitely has his own interesting world when it comes to engineering and mixing an album, and I think that "Laid" might be his masterpiece, even though he has done numerous great U2 albums, nice work with Paul Simon and David Byrne, as well as his own vast library of material. Anyway, It turned out that the end product here resembles a James song very little, which I think is a good thing, for the strength and independent merit of the song on it's own. Still, I'll never deny where the primary influence came from and it's somewhat evident on certain guitar lines and ideas in this track.

This tune began, back in 2015 or 2016, as an outside observer's look at people who put others down and cast them out, for unfair and selfish reasons. Over time, it evolved to having a bit of a sour look at Donald Trump. Then, the lyrics evolved into the end product, which is much more personal to me. In the end, much of the song was written reflecting the personality of one individual. This is a song about betrayal. It is about spineless, weak, blindsideingly-pathetic betrayal.

If you listen carefully, in headphones, there are fun little treats hidden throughout the song. Also, Since it's conception, I envisioned this song starting just the way it does, coming in right after the hard stop of the song previous to it. Interestingly enough, this was the first finished mix that I listened to that made me think that I may have played more keyboards / synths / piano on this album than guitar, which was definitely something I never thought would have happened!

ARTISTS WHO PROVIDED INSPIRATION FOR THIS SONG:

On the positive, and as mentioned above, James, Brian Eno, Peter Gabriel... Maybe a little bit of The Cure.  On the negative, a handful of nasty inconsiderates... but what are you gonna' do?  I tell you what:  You look on the bright side, and the bright side is that their actions helped to influence the lyrical parts of this song.

These days are something else

Something I’ve never seen

From when you pointed fingers at me

To the plague that’s hit the streets,

With your resentment and spite,

You’ve painted your thief

But your canvas is twisted

By the mind behind it.

(Hey Hey Hey) Crucifier, what you got in store?

(Hey Hey Hey) Crucifier, what you bargained for?

(Hey Hey Hey) Judas approves your deeds

Julius Caesar bleeds

And karma’s cold touch creeps up.

And you can do it… there’s nothing to it.

Up there, somebody likes me.

Somebody up there cares,

‘Cause when you kicked me in that river

I somehow reached the air

And I’m better than I would be,

Within your circle squared,

And you can have the still remains

And all its disrepair.

(Hey Hey Hey) Crucifier, what you got in store?

(Hey Hey Hey) Crucifier, what you bargained for?

(Hey Hey Hey) Judas approves your deeds

Julius Caesar bleeds

And karma’s cold touch creeps up.

(Hey Hey Hey) Crucifier, what you running from?

(Hey Hey Hey) Crucifier, what you hiding from?

(Hey Hey Hey) Judas approves your deeds

Julius Caesar bleeds

And karma’s cold touch creeps up.
