ABOUT THE SONG:

I think this is a pretty cool song.  I like how it evolved over the course of creating it into a sort of "song in three parts".  This was not my intention but it ended up being the right course to take with the song.  When I say "song in three parts", I think of "Band On The Run" or "Sowing the Seeds of Love".  Songs that have distinctly different parts that could be entirely different songs, in their own right.

The first part of this song is about leaving.  It's about starting over.  I find it both fascinating and very true that most of us love being in or close to the ocean.  We want to be near where we came from.  We have some drive to return to the shores.  The last thing I recorded for this section of the song was the mandolin and nylon string that attempt to create a bit of a sea chanty melody that links the three sections of this song by appearing in each for a few seconds.

The second part of this song revisits the ill feelings of past events and looks to the future as a commitment to never go back.  The music reflect the turbulence involving this and I liken it to disoriented and destructive waves in a storm.

The third part of this song is a bit of an arrival as far as one's conscience being clear goes.  I love the fruition of this piece and I think it brings a nice conclusion to the first half of the album.

Come a little closer

We’ll see what the weather’s kicking up

Out on the ocean

We’ll see what the tides are churning up

And it won’t matter…

The world moves on without us anyway

Out on the ocean…

Out on the ocean…

Move a little slower

Take your time, but only once you’re here.

Come a little closer

Before we slip and lose another year.

And that’s what matters…

Something more for us to wake up to…

Out on the ocean…

Out on the ocean…

Out on the ocean…

I was a prisoner in a panicked state

I lost my timing and I Iost my face

Hollow, dark and wasted empty days

And I’m never going back ever again.

And we can disappear.

Yeah, we can leave this place.

And everything that’s bad will change.

Yeah, we can disappear.

We can leave no trace.

And things will never be the same.

And we can disappear.

Yeah, we can leave this place.

And everything that’s bad will change.

Yeah, we can disappear.

We can leave no trace.

And things will never be the same, again.
